Maybe "Mini-softbox" and so check that it is suitable for camera-pinnacle wink mounting ??

Do they piece of work better then the Stofen Omnibounce?

It depends on what you are trying to exercise. For softening the shadows in people shots, the softbox is amend.

The Stofen Omnibounce isn't a wink softener. It is also small for that. It is meant to produce the "bare bulb" effect in flashguns that don't accept removable wink heads... which is well-nigh of them.

The blank bulb effect works past spreading light all around the room, which environment then bounces back the low-cal to add illumination at the subject and fill in the hard shadow that comes from the direct light of the Omnibounce.... effectively providing 2 sorts of lite from i source. The shadow itself, of course, remains hard edged.

The Omnibounce isn't a lot of employ for people shots, simply is quite effective for interiors and room shots when the room is small-scale and the decor is calorie-free toned.

The Omnibounce doesn't piece of work at all out of doors.

Lumiquest or Lightsphere

I think yous may exist referring to the Lumiquest serial of products, or the Gary Fong Lightsphere.

The first response you got is exactly correct when discussing the Stofen omnibounce...not a softener, don't recommend information technology if y'all're looking to soften shadows. I similar the Lightsphere with an open top or the chromedome for most people applications.

Re: Lumiquest or Lightsphere

Cue the floodgates Exercise a search on lightsphere or Fong and you'll notice countless threads debating the virtues of the Fongs, the Flip-its, Lumiquests, etc.

I have used the Lumiquest eighty/xx, Omnibounce and Fong Lightsphere. Never used a Flip it, but I stopped looking because I like the Fong. Large complaint that you lot'll hear about it is that information technology causes your wink to work likewise hard by wasting too much lite in all directions. I like it because I get a nice, soft illumination on a bracket, and clients will say that they can't see that a wink was used in the pictures. It has it's pro's and cons, and someone will undoubtedly chime in with zero just disdain for it and praise for something else, and so...

Practiced Luck with any you choose!

Never Used the Lumiquest, but...

...that won't stop me from weighing in.

I like the LS because it's then configurable. It does throw a lot of lite effectually, and information technology does use a lot of ability as a result...just that's precisely what information technology's supposed to do. If you lot're non throwing a lot of light around, you're not going to get the consequence yous're later.

1 thing I've institute with the LS tho is that many, many people don't understand how to use information technology.

ane. Never simply adhere and shoot pointed direct up. Rotate your flash caput 90 degrees with the flash head adjustment button facing yous. At present, when you shoot portrait, yous simply poke the button, hold the caput, and rotate the camera underneath it (GF has lots of videos showing how to do this).

two. Don't use the inverted dome unless you have a need for it. Most of the time when I'm using the LS, I'm billowy off the ceiling. If you put the inverted dome on, yous'll throw a lot more lite around, using more power. Sometimes the dome improves the epitome--virtually times information technology does not, it just eats power. When you go out the inverted dome off, information technology can also assist to put down the diffusion panel in your flash. To direct fifty-fifty more low-cal forward, go out off the inverted dome, put the diffusion console down, and pull the white menu likewise--this kicks more light frontwards.

3. Don't use a diffuser at all in bounce situations. I'thou amazed how many people don't acquire to use a naked flash before they offset calculation mods like a LS to it. Many times the situation calls for naked bounciness. If you're shooting with the wink head at 45 degrees, dropping the diffusion console and/or pulling the white card tin go yous the balance of bounce, softening, and direct the situation requires. Don't forget FEC, shutter dragging, and tripod, either.

4. Simply use direct with a diffuser. Popping direct on with a naked flash is rarely a good idea, fifty-fifty in fill situations. In these cases, the bigger the constructive wink head the meliorate, and that'due south where the LS can actually help. (I'll say it again: don't forget nearly FEC!)

5. Apply the chrome dome. I recommend the kit that includes the white, bister, and chrome dome b/c I find the chrome dome can salve a lot of power (and if you lot're going to buy both this and the white, yous might too become the kit with the amber for a few bucks more than).

The chrome dome allows you lot to do some interesting things. If you stand in a corner, for example, you lot tin aim the flash head at 45 degrees, put on the LS+chrome dome, and aim the kicker plate up into the corner behind you...this is similar having 2 lights. Another interesting thing is to await for mirrors and highly reflective surfaces--you can indicate the hole in the chrome dome so that a directly axle bounces off the reflective surface and hits your subject while the kicker throws must of the low-cal through the diffuser. (This is mainly useful if you lot have a reflector on hand, merely I've institute ways to opportunistically use it as well.)

I've also stuck the bister dome on elevation of the chrome dome for a bit of warming, and I've had some fun creating an impromptu snoot out of aluminum foil and aiming information technology at a reflector / mirror. Depending on whether you line the entire inside with aluminum foil or non, you can get all sorts of different effects.

I dubiety near people utilize their LS's as creatively as I accept, but if it performs at least every bit well equally the Lumiquest does and has this kind of play value, where's the downside in that?
